Renovation Plans

In June 2007, The Chesler Group, Inc. (TCG) purchased this landmark home to adaptively reuse it for commercial office space.

The renovation will incorporate environmentally friendly “green” design and construction strategies for energy use, lighting, water and material use. The Andrew Jackson House will be an energy-efficient and healthy office environment.

Finally, all restoration work will comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation of historic buildings.

Renovation will start in August 2008 with an estimated completion date of September 1, 2009.

The design team includes: TCG, Dimit Architects, and Austrian & Associates.

Occupants

Once restored, the mansion will be headquarters for two private foundations serving Akron and Northeast Ohio. The anchor tenant is GAR Foundation. GAR will house its administrative and program staff, as well as provide public space for community events.

The building will also provide space for the Akron-based staff members of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
